What You Need to Know About Poly Cotton Fabric

When purchasing work coveralls, consumers are overwhelmed by the wide range of fabrics and styles that are presented to them. One type of fabric, which may be unfamiliar to some, is poly cotton. In this article, we will share some facts about poly cotton to help you make an informed decision when choosing a fabric.

What is poly cotton?

This material combines the strength of two fibres, natural cotton and synthetic polyester. The percentage of polyester and cotton included may vary significantly, depending on how the fabric is used. Work garments are often composed of 65% cotton and 35% polyester. Despite being thin and lightweight, poly cotton is surprisingly strong and durable but less expensive than pure cotton fabrics.

How is it manufactured?

This fabric is manufactured by integrating natural fibre (cotton) with synthetic fibre (polyester). Fibres can be combined at either the fibre stage or at the yarn stage. It is important to note that fusing them at the fibre stage can be a little pricier but it will result in a finer quality of material.

What can it be used for?

Polyester and cotton combine to make a hybrid fabric that is tough, durable, breathable, soft and affordable. These properties make the material a popular option for a wide range of clothes, work overalls, undergarments, bed sheets, pillow cases, tablecloths and napkins.
