You can’t fail to have missed that 2022 is the year of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, commemorating 70 years of service since her coronation in 1952. While an incredible achievement – being the first British monarch ever to do so – it means the whole country can come together across four days of national celebration, and there’s plenty going on.
Platinum celebrations
The Platinum Jubilee holiday weekend is from 2nd-5th June 2022 and includes two national bank holidays on Thursday and Friday. While one is extra, the other has been moved from its traditional spot at the end of May to give us a specially extended weekend.
To celebrate this momentous occasion, everyone around the country has the chance to be part of a whole host of planned community events, including street parties and fireworks. But, being the capital, it’s London where the official events are taking place.
Among the festivities will be moments of national reflection at The Queen’s Birthday Parade (Trooping The Colour) on June 2nd as well as a special Service of Thanksgiving at St. Paul’s Cathedral on June 3rd. And the big one taking place on June 4th, which will get everyone in celebration mode, is the Platinum Party at The Palace, featuring some of the biggest bands and artists in music.
But the grand finale to the official celebrations is the Platinum Jubilee Pageant. An all-inclusive festival of creativity, it will feature over 5,000 artists, dancers, and performers telling a visual story of The Queen’s landmark anniversary, all while taking in some of London’s most famous landmarks.
Rest and relaxation
It all sounds fantastic and well worth joining in or even just watching all the events on the TV if you can’t get to London. But despite all the celebrations going on, either nationally or locally, you might even find some free time to relax. After all, with two bank holidays and a unique 4-day weekend, maybe we should all kick back and take some well-earned rest and relaxation?
