It’s August already, which means it’s time for one of the most important dates in the equestrian calendar. Of course, I’m talking about the Defender Burghley Horse Trials. We’ll make the 250-mile drive to Lincolnshire again in a couple of weeks with our 3 Donkeys women’s workwear coveralls, apparel, and accessories range. So what can you expect from this year’s event – and what surprises do 3 Donkeys have in store?
The Burghley Horse Trials 2023
The Burghley Horse Trials have a long-standing reputation as one of the most esteemed equestrian events in the world – ‘the world’s greatest 5* equestrian event’ – taking place in the stunning Burghley House estate in Stamford, Lincolnshire. Attracting riders, spectators, and traders from around the globe, it’s a vibrant, diverse, and very special celebration of equestrian sports and culture.
Back for another 4-day show, the trials see the best in equestrian eventing from Thursday 31st August to Sunday 3rd September and promises the best in horse dressage, cross country and jumping events with the best entrants in the world, competing for ‘the most valuable prize in sport: £110,000.
But there are plenty of other attractions to enjoy, too, including the Defender Experience, the celebrity talk area, the Burghley Boutique for the ultimate in glamping while you stay, and a host of food treats, including Michelin-starred premium picnic hampers, champagne afternoon teas, and dinner in the Winner’s Restaurant.

But beyond the main events, Burghley is an excellent platform for equestrian businesses like ours to connect with riders and enthusiasts who share a passion for horse riding and outdoor clothing. Working with Leo® Workwear for the last 18 months, the ‘Exmoor’ has been in development for much of that time. And it’s fantastic to launch our newest product at Burghley (keep checking our socials for some sneak peeks in the coming weeks).
